Therapy. It’s a big word. It’s daunting, it’s anxiety-inducing, it’s scary-at first glance! Choosing to see a mental health specialist can be intimidating, and finding a nearby therapy center with open availability is hard. From waitlists to trying out therapists, the process of choosing therapy can sound like the last thing a struggling individual wants to do. In this post, we will be walking you through what to expect at your first therapy appointment.
Choosing a Professional
The first thing one should be looking for in choosing a therapy center near them is insurance. Typically, therapy practices list what insurances they take online. If you still aren’t sure, call the office and give them your insurance, and they should be able to tell you if they accept it. Most practices also accept out-of-pocket payments. Here at Counseling Simplified, we are in network with most major insurance companies, but accept out-of-pocket payments as well. Be sure to ask about any appointment costs and associated fees.
Another thing to keep in mind would be what type of therapist you are seeking. If you seem to be struggling with depression, it would be useful to seek a depression specialist. If you are looking for couples counseling, a therapist who specializes in family and marriage therapy would be best. Picking a therapist who is close in age, gender identity, or background can also be helpful. It’s also helpful to look up any credentials or experience a therapist may have to best suit your needs.
When calling or booking an appointment online with a professional, it may seem like waitlists are never ending, and the process may get confusing at times. Counseling Simplified offers a simple, easy way to schedule appointments with no waitlist!
Your First Appointment
At Counseling Simplified, you will be greeted by a lovely, calm waiting room, and a friendly front desk staff. Please show up 5-10 minutes early to accommodate your needs and to ensure your appointment is maximized. Your therapist will come out and greet you, and take you back to their office.
It is important to note that progress isn’t linear. You won’t immediately get better after one appointment, and you may feel as if you are taking steps back. However, this is all a part of the healing process, and the more you attend therapy, the more it will work for you. We will work with you, at your own pace, to get you back on your life’s path.
If therapy sounds like the right fit for you, contact our office at +1(765)-637-4884 or email admin@counselingsimplified.com to get started. We will get back to you within 24 hours!
